Kewargaan Digital Dan Toleransi Beragama Mahasiswa Muslim: Pola Interaksi Media Sosial Mahasiswa Di Universitas Islam Negeri Palopo

The development of social media has expanded the space for citizen participation, but it has also posed challenges in the form of disinformation, hate speech, polarization, and religion-based intolerance. In this situation, digital citizenship is an important competency to form digital behavior that is ethical, responsible, and respectful of diversity. This study aims to analyze the digital citizenship form of Muslim students, identify patterns of social media interaction in the context of diversity, and explain its contribution to strengthening student religious tolerance at Palopo State Islamic University. The research uses a mixed methods approach with a convergent parallel design that integrates quantitative and qualitative data simultaneously. The participants amounted to 34 Muslim students who were selected through purposive sampling. Data was collected using a Google Form questionnaire that contains a five-point Likert scale and open-ended questions. Quantitative data is analyzed with descriptive statistics, while qualitative data is analyzed through Thematic Analysis. The results showed that digital citizenship (M=4.31) and religious tolerance (M=4.35) were in the very high category, while the pattern of social media interaction (M=4.08) was in the high category. Students apply information verification (tabayyun), digital communication ethics, inclusive dialogue, respect for diversity, and avoidance of hate speech. The findings also show that the internalization of moderate Islamic values, such as tabayyun, ukhuwah, and amanah, reinforces reflective, responsible, and tolerant digital behavior. This research resulted in a conceptual model of Religious Moderation-Based Digital Citizenship which emphasizes that the integration of digital competence, communication ethics, academic culture, and moderate Islamic values contributes to strengthening religious tolerance through inclusive social media interaction in Islamic universities. These findings enrich the study of digital citizenship based on religious values and provide practical implications for digital citizenship education and religious moderation in higher education.
